Eco team continue to fly the flag

Sustainable School Update – November 2015

Since the last Eco-Schools update we have been inspected and achieved the Green Flag status for a further 2 years. This brings more focus to our eco-school, with seven categories now being inspected.

'The only recommendation from the report received in July was to gather evidence from more 'whole school' and cross curriculum activities. It was recognised that the school do many things already, but subject areas were not 'highlighting' these activities as clearly as could be to provide evidence towards the green flag.

The new litter pickers purchased with the grant from Wirral Council were used for the first time to help tidy up areas of Birkenhead Park, and this term, students have been making a new bird feeder for the outdoor garden area.

During October, four students (including two of our new cohort) made an 'eco-pudding' using apples from our school trees, and entered the eco-pie/pudding contest at Grove Street Primary School.

The event was attended by the council, many local schools, and the mayor.

A great time was had by all, with plenty of puddings sampled, and sampled again; and a tour of the schools orchard.

Students enjoyed hearing about eco-projects involving Grove Street Primary Schools new chickens and pygmy goats, and It was especially warming to see some of our more vulnerable students laugh and smile the whole afternoon.
