Social Skills Program Launched

We have introduced a new social skills programme, called ‘Social Thinking’, to all of our students at Wirral Hospitals’ School. This has been designed by Michelle Garcia-Winner, Speech & Language Pathologist. All students will have the opportunity to take part in a session once a week in Form Time. The training sessions will usually take place on a Monday or Tuesday morning, with the expectation that staff and students will reinforce these across the school day.

The programme helps young people to better understand themselves, others and the world around them in terms of four aspects of communication. The sessions will take place in three week blocks and each will focus on a different social skill.

We will be offering parents and guardians the opportunity to attend drop-in sessions in which you will be trained in supporting the programme at home. This will provide a consistent approach to help promote social independence. The introductory session will be on Thursday 15th June 2017, to make this as convenient as possible we will be running a morning session and an afternoon session.
