Whether you are a young person, parent, prospective member of staff or have visited for any other reason, my staff and I extend to you a warm welcome to Wirral Hospitals’ School and our website.

We are a unique education provider, catering for some of the most vulnerable young people on the Wirral. As a community, we are lucky to have such a special and unique school and it is a privilege and an honour to be able to serve our fantastic students and their families.

Our overriding aim is to provide a safe, warm, happy, and optimistic learning environment, where young people can re-establish their love of learning and regain confidence in their own ability to cope with the challenges of school life. We exist solely to help young people make a successful transition to their most appropriate next step in education. In some cases, this means a return to their mainstream school; in many it means making a successful transition to post-16 study.

We work closely with all our young people and their families and pride ourselves on our positive and productive relationships, which are built on an ethos of mutual respect and understanding. It is through this close, collaborative work that we are able to get the very best out of our young people.

We have high expectations of all our students. We challenge them to work hard on improving all aspects of their learning, their social and communication skills, and their understanding of others. We strive to develop increasingly independent young adults who have the self-esteem and skills to make the most of the opportunities and challenges they will face in the modern world.

We work hard to learn about each young person and their specific needs, catering our inclusive and diverse curriculum offer to those needs wherever possible. In addition, our exciting and varied extra-curricular programme offers further opportunities for personal development and we encourage all young people to take part in as many of these activities as their health allows.

Most of all, we care. We care enough to help and support all the young people who come to our school...but we also care enough to challenge them to reach their potential, to overcome the barriers they have previously faced, and to go on to have successful futures as valuable members of society.

I hope you will enjoy looking through this website and learning more about our wonderful school and what makes it so special. I hope it gives some small insight into how we go about “Working Together to Make Everything Better.”

Welcome from our Chair of Governors
Kate Dolmor

On behalf of all of the governors, a very warm welcome to this website, which I hope you find is a very useful resource for information about Wirral Hospitals' School.

The Governing Body is made up of governors who are either parents, school staff or members of the local community. All of our governors are volunteers who give their time freely to the running of the school. We are an active governing body with a wide range of experience, and we have a shared commitment to work together for the benefit of the pupils.

At our last Ofsted inspection, the Governing Body were judged to be 'Outstanding'.

The role of the Governors is to ensure the smooth running and strategic direction of the school, to make certain that the school's performance is evaluated and monitored, and that the school's budget is well spent. The Governors also act as critical friends and meet with the Headteacher and the school leadership team regularly, to discuss progress and plan for the future.

The enthusiasm, professionalism, care and diligence of our Headteacher, Phill Arrowsmith, and all the staff, both teaching and non-teaching, is apparent in all that they undertake. We are constantly impressed with the dedication of our staff, who are always prepared to go the extra mile in support of pupils and their families. The governors are very grateful for their skill, experience and positivity, as we work together for the good of the whole school community.

Finally and most importantly the governors take great pride in the success of all our students, who through their achievements, demonstrate why this school is so valuable in being able to provide a pathway to their future.
