Business Studies
Students follow the Edexcel Business Studies GCSE Course.
This is made up of 100 % examinations split over 2 units.
The course provides many links to the real world and allows students to develop their knowledge with a real life context.
Unit 1: Investigating Small Business is covered in Year 10 and consists of:
Written examination: 1 hour and 30 minutes, (50% of the qualification - 90 marks)

● Topic 1.2 Spotting a business opportunity
● Topic 1.3 Putting a business idea into practice
● Topic 1.4 Making the business effective
● Topic 1.5 Understanding external influences on business
Assessment overview
The paper is divided into three sections:
Section A: 35 marks (consisting of calculations, multi-choice and short-answer questions)
Section B: 30 marks (consisting on short-answer and extended writing)
Section C: 25 marks (as with Section B, but based on a different business context)
Unit 2: Building a Business is covered in Year 11 and consists of:
Written examination: 1 hour and 30 minutes, (50% of the qualification - 90 marks)
